By Request Winner – Ged’s Story Pt.1

Do you remember the competition you entered to vote for The Angels – By Request Tour? We here at Spitfire Music aren’t dodgy people, so instead of taking the trip to Melbourne ourselves, John and Rick Brewster came into the office to pick out a winner from a list of those that chose the correct set list. The winner (Ged from Wollongong) had a blast and put on his writing cap to tell us about his adventure with The Angels.

3 Days on Tour with The Angels...

I received a phone call from Cat Swinton, Publicist for The Angels. She told me I was the major prize winner for The Angels By Request Concert Series. There were over 7000 entries Australia wide to pick the set list of your favourite Angels songs for the tour. John Brewster picked a name out of a list of correct set lists and mine was chosen. What can I say? I’m the luckiest f*#ker ever! My wife, Vanessa and I were flown down to Melbourne for the last 3 shows of The Angels By Request Tour.

I’ve been an Angels fan for 25 years. The first time I saw The Angels was on the “Howling” tour at Wollongong Town Hall, Under 18’s gig. That was a concert I’ll never forget. The Angels were awesome. I remember Doc wearing multiple suits and disrobing throughout the gig. The tour posters at the time had Doc with his arm held high showing allegiance. Wearing my “Two Minute Warning” tour shirt and thrashing my mullet around that night was too good. I didn’t see the “Two Minute Warning” tour as I was 13 at the time, too young to get into Shelly’s.

Since that show I was hooked. I’ve seen The Angels many times since then. On the Guns n Roses “Welcome to the Jungle” tour At Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1989, the “Beyond Salvation” tour at Waves, where my girlfriend at the time, now my wife even kissed Bob Spencer’s bald head. Also on the “Red Back Fever” tour and the “Face To Face” Reunited tour last year to name a few. I f*#king love em. My mates and I also caught the Shelly’s gig on the 1st of August. This was the gig closest to Wollongong so the boys and I could have a few JD’s and enjoy the show together before my rock n roll adventure with The Angels began.
