By Request Winner - Ged's Story Pt. 4 (Final)
Here's the final part of our "By Request" concert package winner Ged's adventure.
15th August
We checked out Luna Park today. It's only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We went on the roller coaster and got the photo. Also checked out Acland Street and had some of the cakes from the many shops.
Last show of the tour tonight. I can't wait. We got to Ferntree Gully Hotel at 8.30 and went through the back entrance. Ness and I said hello to the guys and checked out the hotel. I spoke to Buzz out the back and met some of the support band members and fans. Buzz formed Gangajang with Chris Bailey after they left The Angels in the 80's. He also played on the Jimmy Barnes song, No second prize and the Australian Crawl song "Reckless". Buzz is involved with a healthy food education program for Aboriginal communities. Thanks for the chat and photos mate.
There was a barrier between the stage and the crowd this time. We were allowed to use this for an awesome viewing position. Stocked up on JD's and got security to guide us through another sold out crowd to the front of the stage. Once you were at the front, there was no getting out. The crowd was pushing forward to get closer to the front. Another awesome set from Skarlet Blue. The band members gave me their Headlights CD and signed it for me after the show. They have toured the US twice and played with Jon Stevens, Ian Moss and of course The Angels. I urge you to go and check these guys out next time they're in town. They go off. There were four support acts tonight. By now the crowd were revved up for The Angels.
There was excitement in the air. Buzz came on first, the crowd roared, he was followed by Rick, John, Chris and Doc. This is The Angels at their best. Ness could use the privilege of the barrier to get some great photos. The hits kept coming and the boys were on fire. Doc was hanging off the roof pillar to the crowd's approval. During the show the stage lights went out. The Angels kept on playing, like the professionals they are. The lights came back on. Doc said he thought they would have to do the rest of the show in the dark. Dark Room.
As the songs kept coming the people at the front became more squashed. Banging heads, arms in the air and the smell of sweat was everywhere. There were no ladies taken on stage during "Marseilles" tonight because of the barrier. There was a lady next to me who would of loved to get up there. She was thrashing and jumping around for the whole concert. The "No Way, Get Fucked, Fuck Off" chorus from "Gonna", roared through Ferntree Gully tonight. It was another excellent show. Aussie Rock at it's best. We met Rick Brewster's wife, Michelle after the show. She was very nice and helpful. Rick is an excellent guitarist and has also played with Jimmy Barnes. This was the last show of The Angels "By Request" Tour. What a tour. I got to see 4 of the 17 shows they did. Yeah, there were 2 corporate gigs not on the back of the hoodie.
The Rock and Roll life is one hell of a ride. I'll see you on tour in November. I can't f*#king wait. A big thank you to everyone that was involved in making this a once in a lifetime experience. The Angels still f*#king rock!
Ged.
