Moonshine Jug & String Band Show – Hall Of Fame

September 7th, 2015

The Moonshine Jug & String Band - 1971Coming up on Fri 2nd October the Moonshine Jug & String Band will be inducted into the Hall Of Fame at the Goodwood Institute as part of the Adelaide Music Collective sessions.

The evening will also see a special posthumous induction for Chris Bailey as well as a fitting tribute being paid to Doc Neeson.

Whilst this will be an intimate affair there are some tickets available on line. The show will present Gill Hicks & Gary Burrows (with the Immanuel College Choir), Sasha March, Banjo Jackson and then culminate with a reformation performance presented by The Moonshine Jug & String Band.

The Goodwood Institute holds a special place in the history of the Adelaide music scene having been the home of The Oxford Club from the late 60’s into the early 70’s. The venue was to play host to many burgeoning young artists including those who were set to move through their role in The Keystone Angels before finally becoming the Australian music icons simply known as The Angels.

Europe Hasn’t Forgotten The Angels …And Now The Band Return Home For Round 2 Of The National A-Z Tour

June 17th, 2015

The Angels - London Bridge Station - 3rd June - 2015It may be decades since The Angels graced the foreign shores of Europe and England however the international acclaim of their music has very much stood the test of time.

Throughout the band’s constant evolution the songs have been a mainstay both here and abroad. Shining as a testament to the global success of their many rock anthems The Angels recently returned to the northern hemisphere to a very enthusiastic reception as they performed live in England, France and Sweden.

At The Garage in London the crowd roared after every song loud enough to pin the band’s ears to the back wall, at Le Forum in Paris they sang the guitar solos and the lyrics louder than the band as well as calling for 2 complete encores after a 90 minute set and two support bands. During the huge Sweden Rock outdoor festival the crowd tripled in size as the band made their way through a set which included a special guest appearance from aussie-icon Jon English singing Fashion & Fame.

The Angels - Jon English - Sweden Rock - 6th June - 2015Fresh from their overseas stint The Angels are now looking forward to Round 2 of their 2015 national ‘A to Z’ Tour which starts at the mighty Maroubra Seals Club on Fri 3rd Jul.

Over the course of the coming months fans are invited to join in with these special all-Angels shows right across the eastern seaboard and down into Tasmania. Each of these gigs will see The Angels perform 26 hand picked songs to represent each letter of the alphabet as they take a journey through their vast catalogue of music.

‘A to Z’ National Tour – Round 1 Now – Round 2 Released

May 4th, 2015

The Angels Are Proud To Announce Round 2 Of Their 2015 'A to Z' National TourAfter recently announcing a full month of tour dates which start on 1st May for Round 1 of their ‘A to Z‘ National Tour The Angels were amazed by the support of fans from elsewhere around Australia.

Following this great response the band are now proud to announce Round 2 of the tour which will offer an extended schedule of dates that continue well into the second half of 2015.

A-Z is a blast,” says John Brewster…it’s great to be able to play so many songs that we are often asked to play but haven’t been able to fit them in. We’ve tried it, we like it and we look forward to once again taking it on the road for this second round of shows after our gigs overseas in London, Paris and Sweden.

These ‘A to Z‘ Tour shows run over two and a half hours! It’s The Angels from start to finish, in the finest form and rocking as hard as ever. The band pre-launched the tour back in February with a couple of packed house shows at The Bridge Hotel in Sydney …the vibe in the room was electric, it was crammed full of hardcore fans singing along with every word.

Enhancing these unique shows is the very special release of a venue-sale-only Limited Edition 7″ Vinyl Commemorative Single. Also available on CD, the single contains an authentic analogue re-recording of Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again along with a B-side cover of ZZ Top’s classic boogie track La Grange featuring blazing harp solos from John Brewster.

A Great Rock’n’Roll Show With Cheap Trick & Billy Idol

April 10th, 2015

The Angels - Christchurch - New Zealand - 4th April - 2015The last few weeks has seen The Angels do a run of over half a dozen outdoor and arena shows alongside Billy Idol and old mates from way back Cheap Trick.

Including other artists such as Choir Boys, this unique tour ran across Australia and into New Zealand. Organised by A Day On The Green and Frontier Touring the special series of shows brought in tens of thousands of very enthusiastic fans ready to rock on and get into the epic radio hits from these great bands.

After completing the Australian leg of the current tour the whole party was very well catered for in New Zealand thanks to the production crew of promoter, and ex-Angels drummer, Brent Eccles as they played three big arena shows in Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch.

The Angels & Cheap Trick - Robin Zander - Tom Petersson & John Brewster - Hunter Valley - 28th March - 2015The Angels thoroughly enjoyed sharing their music with the audience at every one of these shows, although playing Horncastle Arena in New Zealand did hold a special place in their hearts with Christchurch being the sister city of the group’s hometown of Adelaide.

It was also great fun for the band to reunite with Cheap Trick having first toured together in Europe and the USA in 1980 – the pair of bands again playing together as The Angels moved around Australia with their national Beyond Salvation tour in 1990.

For The Angels, this is just the beginning of a huge year with Round 1 of their new 2015 national ‘A to Z’ Tour running across five states from 1st May through to 30th May.

The Angels & Cheap Trick - Rick Nielsen & Rick Brewster - Hunter Valley - 28th March - 2015Following on from these initial ‘A to Z’ shows The Angels are set for a lightning fast jump across to the northern hemisphere as they play two live gigs in France & England plus an enormous summer festival in Sweden.

Then, returning to Australia mid-year, the band will be getting into more up close pub gigs as they move into the next series of shows on Round 2 of their 2015 national ‘A to Z’ Tour.

Rock’n’Roll Is Definitely Alive & Well

‘A to Z’ Round 1 Now Announced – Single Sells At Shows

February 9th, 2015

The Angels - New Commemorative Single - 2015The Angels are pleased to announce that their new commemorative single will be available at live shows on 7″ vinyl as well as CD when Round 1 of the group’s new ‘A to Z’ Tour gets underway in May 2015.

Recorded in the traditional manner on an analogue tape this release brings back the sound that led the band to fame as their career burst out of the 1970’s onto the national stage.

The tour will see a special set of 26 songs to cater for every letter of the alphabet as the band provide a full evening of rock at each and every venue along the way.

Taking care of the start of the alphabet is the commemorative re-recording of Am I Ever Gonna’ See Your Face Again with the band’s front man Dave Gleeson providing the motivation to record some ZZ Top music as a special B-Side to complete the alphabet. Built on traditional southern boogie rhythms this unique version of La Grange features John Brewster pushing out a series of manic, ramped up solos using his trademark method of playing R’n’B blues harp.

The last 12 months have been huge for The Angels, first with the release of their studio album of all new material TALK THE TALK, and then their sell-out 40th Anniversary Tour, which took them to all corners of Australia. Now 2015 will see the boys embark on Round 1 of their ‘A to Z’ Tour in May, then head overseas in June to London & Sweden followed when they return back home by Round 2 of the ‘A to Z’ Tour from July to September.
