The Band Talk About Music For The Year That Was 2012 & Take A Look At What’s Ahead
From our live show and recording in January with Dave Gleeson in Queensland, moving through the recording and release of our new studio album then going from pub shows on to the Summer Invasion Tour it’s been a busy and successful time.
The live recording at Queensland Performing Arts Centre was a consolidation of Dave Gleeson joining the band for the 2011 “Waiting For The Sun” single and tour. These live performance recordings of many Angels hits went on to spearhead the music downloads offerred to Fan Club members through the brand new “Mr Damage Does Free Stuff” on line promotion. As we move in to 2013 those who join up will see even more of these opportunities arise as Mr Damage comes to grips with 21st century technology.
We were proud that “Take It To The Streets” debuted first week in at #7 on the local ARIA chart.
This album release led to the start of our next run of up-close pub shows across the middle of the year around many states of Australia. This is just how The Angels began their life.
Over the years we’ve found the popularity of the music has led to a necessity for the band to satisfy larger and larger audiences. 2012 was no different as the months led on to a great run of outdoor shows for The Summer Invasion tour presented at hip wineries across the country by the good people at Day On The Green.
Entertaining large crowds of music lovers wasn’t just left to the winery shows either, with The Angels being chosen as the band to headline the three day Sydney Blues & Roots Festival in October.
When you consider who played on the bill for this festival it’s no wonder we were so flattered by the recognition this lends to the many years of hard work we’ve poured in to developing our craft as entertainers.
We’d like to set aside here some space to thank, not all, but an assortment of players in what has been a great year. As an idea of the complexity of the network around the band, if we were to list everyone it would take up an entire web site of it’s own.
Added to this, late January sees us once again heading to Alberts Studios to record more of the tracks for our next new album.
Quite frankly, whether it’s live or studio, we just want to keep writing riffs and making music.
In March Mr Damage has got us presenting his three night live trilogy of albums inside Sydney’s legendary rockin’ venue The Annandale Hotel. Over each consecutive night we’ll be performing live renditions of the albums Face To Face, No Exit & Dark Room.
When we think about the fun, effort and money that went in to creating these records we’re glad that Mr Damage has made this one of his missions for 2013.
Fans of these albums have let us know how they can’t wait to take part in this and that’s just spurring us on even more.
This venue’s one of those up close inner suburban pubs so if you don’t want to miss these shows we suggest you visit our Gigs page as soon as you get the chance.
Last year, by the time we’d set aside time for the album release and the Summer Invasion Tour there simply wasn’t enough time to play these shows at all the live venues who had requested them…….. not to worry tough, we’re just gonna’ do as many as we can this year!
The “Take It To The Streets” gigs are all in those classic up-close rock style venues and give fans a chance to see the band play the way they did right from the beginning.
Billed as “The Angels – Greatest Hits Tour” and to be presented by Mr Damage these “in concert” live rock performances will see audiences enjoy a full two hour show that reaches through the depths of our songwriting history.
We’re especially looking forward to getting out of town and doing these gigs. They represent a culmination of countless hours of songwriting but more than that, they represent to us the kindred spirit we’ve found in so many members of the Australian audience when it comes to a love of true, straight-forward Aussie guitar rock.
Given that over this period of 2013 we’ll also be working through the rest of our next studio album it’s doubtless that the second half of the year will see another long list of dates in order to keep on spreading the rock.
We’ve really enjoyed sharing our music in 2012 and this year we are looking forward to doing it all again as the nights roll on.
Best Regards….. The Angels
